Medicating your Emotions

                                            Are you constantly trying to change the way you feel
                         by using an unhealthy sources outside of you to sooth or hide the inside feelings?

Here's A Quick Way To know if you are sabotaging yourself because of unresolved feelings/emotions.
  1. Have you been using prescription medications to create dopamine and endorphins? (how to increase your dopamine and endorphins naturally next weeks blog)
  2. Do you self-medicate to numb yourself by using..
  1. Isolation
  2. Food
  3. Alcohol
  4. Drugs
  5. Sex  
  6. Worry/anxiety
  7. Insomnia
  8. Negative behaviours
  9. Gambling e.t.c
I am not saying prescription medications don’t have a valuable use short term to support the journey back to health.
Yes, I have used prescription medications to kick start myself during my back injury. (Chronic pain can be terribly debilitating).
They are like a starter motor in a car, they turn the motor and then the car takes over.
They are a kick start to help support you but not a long-term solution as the pharmaceutical companies would like us to believe.
 
How do you Know it Is Costing You A Fortune! (physically and or emotionally)
  1. Guilt or shaming yourself after the event
  2. Worrying, hiding or justifying the tools you use to medicate your emotions
  3. Relationship stress
  4. Financial stress
  5. The feelings don’t go away
  6. You feel trapped in a cycle (figure of 8)
 
Feelings are not bad or wrong contrary to what you may have been taught as a child or experienced as an adult.
Our feelings can’t hurt us, but our actions or lack of actions we take can…
If we choose an option which does not resolve the issue the cycle continues and may even increase the need to self-medicate.
We are all human beings, and some have stronger emotions then others and we all have a place in society.
Therefore, we all choose different careers.
Someone with strong emotions may be in a caring role such as a nurse, teacher, doctor, commonly a service to the community where they can get their motivators meet by nurturing others.
 
Straight Scoop on How To how to use your feelings instead of sabotaging yourself
  1. Listen to your body (when you go to self-medicate, ask yourself how am I feeling?
  2. Except you are human
  3. A. Ask yourself what am I fearful of?
  4. B. Is this serving me?
C. What am I needing to address/change?
D. What am I learning?
E. What is the worst thing that could happen?
  1. Act on the feelings
  2. What actions do I need to take?
  3. Connect with others who can support you
How to start today to embrace your emotions and stop pretending you’re ok.
  1. Download a feelings app
  2. Journal daily what has been the positive and the learnings
  3. Get support
  4. Learn about yourself
  5. Accept and embrace you are amazing, and you are here not to be perfect but to grow and learn.
  6. Embrace emotions as an exciting journey in life not a horror movie to hide from.
  7. Remember others are going through life as well.
  8. Release the strong fear which is triggering your self-sabotaging habits.
