Universal Language

Communication is an exchange back and forth with two or more parties.

Balanced healthy communication is when both parties contribute, asking questions sharing information and active listening.

Be careful not to ask multiple questions in concession as it can feel like the person is being grilled for information rather than free flowing communication.

Communication is more than words. We communicate with the words we speak the tone and intensity in which they are delivered. It is not only what we say it is how we say it.

Our bodies also are very powerful communicators. The facial expressions are a universal language and one of the first reads on someone’s emotional state.

Does your facial expression show you are emotionally present?

Unfortunately, many people send confusing or negative nonverbal signals without even knowing it. When this happens, both connection and trust are damaged.

Eye contact tells the other person you are interested in being in the conversation, so be aware if you are scanning the room while talking with someone.

Does your body show you are relaxed during conversation?

Do you walk away and attend to something else without notice while the other person is talking?
Many people may do this because they may generally be busy, in this case inform the person you are speaking with of this and tell them you are interested and will be back.
When conversations become challenging for someone they also may use this tactic to be able to give themselves time recompose. Also, if you find yourself here communicate with the person you are having conversation with that you just need a moment and reassure them you will be back.

Open and honest communication removes the guess work out of nonverbal clues which can be misinterpreted and leave the other person feeling disrespected.

Be sure to acknowledge the other person during conversation with non-verbal clues such as nodding and acknowledge verbally with acknowledgment words such as yes, right or general acknowledgement of the topic.

Communication in large groups can also be challenging with multiple conversations happening and a wide variety of personalities.
During these times consider being more adaptive to the environment as the conversation can flow fast and not be as easy to have those deep communication connections.
At times you may be the communicator more than the listener. Some people prefer large groups as they are not required to share as much information and can just sit in the space with others. When they are pressed for information can feel very uncomfortable.
Do you prefer large group conversations or individual conversations?
Are you an active listener?
Are you being communicator?

For me, the most beautiful art is language, words, or communication. I believed that without this thing, we cannot be a fully human. Because for me, communication is one of the most important things in conversing with any other people. I became a call center agent, an English teacher, a poet, a newspaper writer and now a blogger. In all the jobs I entered, I use communication as the primary language. Without communication, I cannot explain well the things I have to say. That is why, it is a great pleasure for me to have a good communication skill. I am not talented in dancing or in drawing, but I have something to say in conversing.
